Missão África — Theological Formation (Mozambique & Angola)

In Mozambique and Angola, the rapid growth of Christian congregations presents a critical challenge: a severe shortage of theologically trained pastors. Without grounded orthodox leadership, emerging parishes are highly vulnerable to syncretism and fractured theology. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil addresses this directly by providing robust theological extension (ETE) programs to native leaders where they live and serve.
This inaugural lot is dedicated entirely to IELB's Missão África. Every franc above the sowed threshold is deployed to fund theological instruction, native pastoral stipends, and the translation of critical Christian literature, ensuring the African church is built on a foundation of sound doctrine.
The Calling
Across Sub-Saharan Africa, the rapid expansion of Christian congregations frequently outpaces the theological formation of local leadership. In Mozambique and Angola, rural and urban churches face the constant threat of syncretism and prosperity theology when left without grounded, confessional shepherds. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil (IELB) intervenes not by permanently installing expatriate pastors, but by building indigenous theological infrastructure. Through the Missão África initiative, IELB partners with local synods to deliver Educação Teológica por Extensão (ETE)—a mobile and accessible seminary curriculum tailored for men already serving as lay leaders in their communities. This project funds the deployment of theological instructors, the translation and printing of orthodox Lutheran literature in Portuguese and local dialects, and the stipends required to keep native pastoral students focused on their rigorous formation. Without this external bridge, native leaders lack the orthodox instruction necessary to securely guide their rapidly growing flocks.
